Highwoods is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and there are information boards dotted around the woods giving insight into the flora and fauna to be found
The Green route (also known as the Humphry Smith Trail) is surfaced (compacted stone) and wheelchair-friendly. The red route is also wheelchair accessible in part. Head in anti-clockwise direction from the car park, following way-marks Z-Q. There is a sign at the pond (Q) stating that the rest of the route is unsuitable for wheelchairs.
When dry underfoot, the Red route should be accessible for pushchairs. Be aware that there are a few shallow steps en route (by way-mark H), and the path is unsurfaced in places.
We advise wearing wellies during the wet, winter months (or after periods of heavy rain), when tackling the Red, White and Blue routes.
