Gatwick Aviation Museum

Ask one of the friendly volunteers to show you around. You will get a lot more out of your visit!

Get up close and personal with some of the world's most incredible flying machines! Gatwick Aviation Museum has an amazing collection of heritage aircraft and memorobilia - my daughter (6) and I had a great morning and learned a lot!

* Get up close to historically important aircraft of the cold war era

* See interesting memorabilia from some of the airlines which flew from Gatwick

* Watch the planes take-off and land from the observation shelter beside the Gatwick runway!

* Tour the huge Shackleton aircraft - in non-COVID times visitors can climb up to the cockpit!

Summer: Fri-Sun 9.30 - 17.00 (last entry 16.00); Winter (Nov-Mar): 9.30-16.00 (last entry 15.00)

Situated right on the Sussex/Surrey border, the museum is mainly indoors and laid out on one level. There is ramp access, making the museum wheelchair/pushchair friendly.

Three planes are located outside the hanger, including the huge Shackleton! There are plenty of picnic tables in this area - bring your own food or purchase light refreshments (hot and cold drinks, ice creams and chocolate bars) from the museum shop.

The covered observation shelter beside Gatwick's runway is approx. 500m away from the museum. Access to the shelter is across a field - a pathway was mown into the grass when we visited (July), enabling easy access. A picnic table (+ bin!) are also situated here!

Expect to spend 1.5-2 hours here; or longer if you stay to watch the planes take-off and land for a while.
