Knole (National Trust) is a magnificent 15th century palace surrounded by an enormous deer park.

  • The HUGE house with FANTASTIC children's trail! Originally built as an Archbishop's palace, the scale and grandeur of Knole is really something to behold. Inside it is decorated to impress and is full to the brim with amazing paintings and even a bed made for King James II!

  • Deer! The medieval deer park is home to a wild herd - you are guaranteed to see plenty during your visit but who will spot the one with the biggest antlers?

  • Climb the spiral staircase to the top of the Gatehouse Tower for amazing panoramic views.

  • Accessible walking - the waymarked Family Walk (4.5 km/1 hour) is both pushchair and wheelchair accessible. Great for the winter months too, as it's relatively mud-free.

We spent well over an hour exploring the house. To be honest we could have happily spent longer there but we'd exhausted the patience of our 10-month old :-) Our daughter (8) was totally engrossed in the children's Treasure Trail and did it in detail! Not a problem since it was fun for adults too! The weekend we went there were lots of helpful volunteers bringing the house and its contents to life.

PLEASE NOTE: Some of the house Showrooms will be closed for cleaning 1st Nov '21 - 3rd Jan '22 and all the Showrooms will be closed from 4 Jan - 11 Feb '22. The parkland and tower remain open year-round.

With 1,000 acres to explore, the parkland surrounding the house is enormous! Keep things simple by following one of 3 waymarked routes. The Family Walk (4.5 km/1 hour - follow the red waymarks) is pushchair/wheelchair accessible.

Eating and Drinking: The Brewhouse Cafe serves hot and cold meals, drinks and snacks and offers both inside and outside courtyard seating or make your way to the pretty rooftop terrace for parkland views and some deer spotting.

Bringing a picnic? There is a designated outdoor picnic area adjacent to the House. It's recommended that picnics are enjoyed in this area to avoid being interrupted by the deer.

Dogs: Must be kept on a lead at all times (to protect the deer). Whilst welcome in the outdoor courtyard areas, dogs are not allowed in any buildings.

Observe the deer from a respectful distance. They are wild animals and must not be approached or fed.

Nearby: The entrance to Knole is right by Sevenoaks town centre with its nice shops and eateries.
