Alfriston is a picture-perfect village and is popular! If the free car park is full, alternative parking can be found in nearby The Willows, pay and display car park (2 North St, Alfriston, Polegate BN26 5UG).
See map for the route to the riverside and the start of the walk. Upon reaching the river, cross the bridge and turn right (heading away from the village). Follow the riverside path as far as the next bridge, or turn around earlier if you prefer.
At the bridge, choose either to retrace your steps, or cross to the other side of the river before heading back to the village.
Please note: The west bank gets quite overgrown during the summer months. From May-September, we advise remaining on the east bank for the return leg of the walk. The west bank is also very narrow in places and is therefore unsuitable for pushchairs.
There are a couple of kissing gates en route - pushchairs will need to be carried over.
The Plough and Harrow pub (Littlington) is located mid-way (see map) and is a good place to stop for refreshments.
