Burton Pond Trail
Follow the circular nature trail as it winds its way through a fascinating range of habitats - woodland, heath, and wetland (including an acid peat bog)! There is lots to see along the way and the level ground makes this a good walk for children.
Serene views across huge ponds - enjoy spotting dragonflies and frogs
Scale the most magnificent climbing tree (don't worry, you can't miss it)!
Follow the boardwalk which crosses the swampy depths of the Black Hole peat bog
Collect pine cones in the pine forest
Lots of shade!

Before starting your walk, cross the road from the car park and walk along the jetty to marvel at the beauty of Burton Mill Pond. The walk is accessed by turning right (as you stand with your back to the car park). You will spot the yellow footpath sign.
Follow the dragonfly way-marks as you make your way around the circular trail along surfaced and unsurfaced footpaths, minor roads and a boardwalk.
Dogs are welcome, but please keep them under close control.
Please note: The open section of this walk (between Newpiece Moor and The Moor - see map) is along a narrow path which can become quite overgrown with nettles during the summer months. A friend who undertook this walk with her three children in late July mentioned that this section was 'tricky'.
