Jack and Jill Windmills
The area is very exposed and windy - take an extra layer (and hat in winter months)
These iconic windmills stand atop the beautiful South Downs and offer spectacular views of the Sussex Weald. Jill Windmill has been restored to working order and is open to the public on an occasional basis. However, a circular walk (from the car park) can be enjoyed at any time:

Dogs are welcome on site on Open Days, but are not permitted on Jill Windmill's upper floors.
A souvenir and tea shop operates on windmill Open Days.
Walk From the Windmills
Turn left out of the car park to begin your walk. The instructions which follow are for the shorter 2.2 km walk, shown on the map. In our opinion, this walk would be suitable for an off-road style pushchair in the warmer months, when it has not rained for some time.
1) Head up hill until you reach a junction. Turn left and walk through the gate (following the sign for 'South Downs').
2) The path continues uphill, passing horse fields on your right.
3) Turn right at the public bridleway sign and walk between two fences for a short time (gentle downhill). The path here can get quite muddy at times.
4) Pass through the gate and follow the blue bridleway sign. The path heads downhill.
5) At the bottom of the field, turn right. The path goes through the farm yard and is marked 'South Downs way to Ditchling Beacon 2 miles'.
6) Continue on this path, back to the car park.
Use the map to guide you for the longer 4.6 km walk. This walk can be very muddy at times and is only recommended to be undertaken on foot.
Both walks are dog-friendly and dogs can be off-lead some of the way, but please keep them on a lead around livestock and when walking through the farm yard.
