This 21 acre site is managed by the Woodland Trust. The entrance to the wood is discrete and is accessed by a kissing gate next to a lay-by. Parking is in one of two lay-by's nearby (see map).

The paths here are unsurfaced and become muddy in winter. Most of the route is along wide paths (sandy in places), however, the trail does become narrow and 'rooty' in places and there is one short flight of steps. Although the route is not way-marked, it is hard to get lost here, given that you are mostly walking on paths close to the water's edge.

We visited in July, after a short period of heavy rain. Unfortunately, the tunnel through the rock was flooded with several inches of water. We regretted not having our wellies with us, but were able to balance (precariously) on a narrow piece of wood to get through. Our daughter needed to be carried.

Expect to spend 1-1.5 hours here. The lakeside trail is bordered by fields. A footpath through the fields provides the option to extend your walk (see map).

Dogs are welcome here and can be exercised off-lead, provided they do not enter the water. Please pick up after your dog.

SWIMMING, BOATING ETC, IS PROHIBITED.

The quintessentially English 16th century 'Peacock' pub, is just a few minutes drive away.
