This 60-hectare ancient wood (a former medieval deer park) is delightful throughout the year, but especially in spring when bluebells carpet the woodland floor.

  • Various trails to explore (way-marked in different colours)

  • Stream jumping!

  • Play hide and seek behind ancient trees

  • Spot the elusive roe deer

There are various trails to choose from, each one colour coded and displayed on a large map in the car park.

Whilst a 500m surfaced 'all weather trail' leads from the car park, you really need to travel deeper into the wood to see its true beauty and tranquility. We visited in late April and it was very dry underfoot, despite a couple of recent downpours. However, we would advise wearing wellies in winter or after sustained periods of rain. The blue route (suitable for horses) is wide and would be suitable for young cyclists, when it is dry underfoot.

Dogs may be exercised off-lead, provided they are kept under control.
