Broadwater is roughly half heathland and half woodland. The woodland is a mix of native broadleaved trees, with areas of coppice and interspersed pines. The open glades are full of flowers and butterflies in the spring and summer months.

The Nature trail takes in heathland, woodland and the decoy pond (see map). The first 200m is flat, and hard-surfaced. After that the trail is on a wide, unsurfaced track. During extended periods of dry weather, the route is suitable for pushchairs. However, during the winter months and after periods of wet weather, the path can become very muddy and is therefore unsuitable for pushchairs.

The Heathland and Woodland trail (approx 2 hours) takes you around the whole reserve. This is generally unsurfaced, and can become muddy in autumn and winter.

Dogs are allowed into the reserve, but they must be kept on leads from 1 February to 30 September to protect ground nesting birds. Outside this time please ensure dogs are kept under close control.

No refreshments are available to buy at this reserve.
