Stunning at any time of year and truly exceptional in Autumn, when the vivid autumn colours are amplified by the reflections in the mirror lakes! A great place for a walk with the family whatever the season, children will particularly enjoy:

  • Spotting huge fish, frogs and dragonflies in the 4(!) lakes

  • Hunting for seasonal treasures on the nature scavenger hunt (collect from Reception)

  • Stomping on crispy leaves and fallen trees in Walk Wood

Additional events for children are often run during school holidays (there is generally a small charge for these).

There are acres of landscaped gardens to explore at the National Trust's Sheffield Park. The garden slopes gently down to a series of four spectacular lakes, criss-crossed by bridges.

The majority of the garden is accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs; the latter being available to borrow on request from Reception. Children's scooters are often allowed in the gardens, however it is worth noting that permission is sometimes withdrawn due to the weather, events or path erosion.

Dogs (on short leads) are welcome in the gardens daily before 1pm (except Saturdays).

Adjacent to the gardens, a large parkland provides varied, way-marked walking opportunities, and is open even when the gardens are not. The open, grazed fields provide ample space for ball games and dogs (on leads) can be walked here at any time.

The Coach House Tea-room serves an array of hot and cold lunches, cakes and refreshments. Children's lunch boxes and hot food are available as well as baby-food warming facilities. Visitors are welcome to picnic in the gardens too.
