Free Places to Visit in & Around Rye

Medieval Rye is a must-visit destination! Picture perfect with its cobbled lanes and half-timbered houses.
 
Rye is a window shopper's paradise with a great selection of independent shops to explore. Head to 12th century St Mary's Church and climb the tower (small charge) for fantastic panoramic views over the town and beyond.
 
Free nearby attractions include: 
- Rye Harbour, voted Britain's favourite nature reserve (2016). A wonderful place for families to explore, with lovely smooth paths suitable for scooting and cycling.
- Camber Sands is also nearby - a stunning long sandy beach backed by high dunes. 
 
The National Trust's Bodiam castle is just a 25 minute drive away and is an incredible place for visitors of all ages to explore!
 
Rye in East Sussex has a population of around 5,000. NB. It is located to the east of Hastings. The journey from Hastings takes approximately 30 mins by road.  Please note, Rye Harbour is 2 miles south-east of Rye town.
