Free Places to Visit in & Around East Grinstead

East Grinstead is a pretty market town in the Mid Sussex district of West Sussex. Set on a sandstone ridge on the northern boundary of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to the Ashdown Forest, East Grinstead is surrounded by beautiful countryside. 
 
There are plenty of free places to visit in and around East Grinstead:
- Explore the woodland trails and bridges in Ashplats Wood 
- Discover the Forest Way Trail - the perfect place for a family bike ride
- Visit the animals at Tablehurst Farm and the National Cat Centre
- Experience the beauty of the High Weald with a circular walk on the Ashdown Forest
 
In addition, nearby Standen House and garden and Wakehurst, owned by the National Trust are excellent days out and are free to visit for NT members. 
 
East Grinstead has a population of around 26,000. Despite being in the county of West Sussex, the town is near the East Sussex, Kent and Surrey borders. Direct trains to London Victoria take 56 minutes and depart every half hour.
