Free Places to Visit in & Around Uckfield

Situated on the edge of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the market town of Uckfield is just a short drive from the beautiful Ashdown Forest. Famously  home to Winnie the Pooh, the Forest is a protected open heathland habitat comparable to the New Forest. A beautiful place to take a stroll with the family; check out our High Weald Circular, Ashdown Loop and Pooh Bridge walks.

- Discover the circular lakeside trail at Lake Wood, which offers a unique combination of shady woodland walking, huge sandstone rocks and tranquil waterside views.
- Meet the animals at the brilliant Raystede sanctuary and the National Cat Centre.
 
In addition, Uckfield is just a short distance away from the National Trust's beautiful Sheffield Park. Children will love crossing the bridges over the mirror lakes, climbing the 140 year old Giant Redwood and hunting for seasonal treasures on the nature scavenger hunt. Admission is free for NT members.
 
Uckfield (in the county of East Sussex) has a population of around 15,000. A direct train line runs  to London Bridge, with journeys to the capital taking an average of 1 hr 20 min.
